So I installed wine and it worked perfectly fine I played payday2 on my rmbp and it worked great, when I now try to it says updating and then it just crashed any ideas??

So what are you saying that you are running Steam for PC in a Wine wrapper on your Mac ?
I tried this a while back and it is not really good at all.

Register with the Porting Team site then you can ask questions etc for the particular wrapper you are trying to use, and that the wrapper creator will also be there to help help, well in most cases anyway.
All I know is when I tried it it was as I said before not that good, thing is with wine wrappers is that there so many different set ups out there not all run the wrappers in the same way, good luck with it and I hope that pointer helps you out.
