I don't think that they will be. I also doubt that the package you link to will be all you hope it is. WINE only works on x86 versions of *Nix. This is because it provides a replacment implementation of the Windows APIs, but not an x86->PPC (or anything else) instuction set translator which is what Virtual PC does. In combination with such an instruction set translator WINE might be able to run windows programs on OSX, but they would still look like windows programs.

Notice the Date: (2001/6/26)... We're talking pre-10.1 here. Chances are this is a worm or trojan.

WINE will probably never happen. WINE tries to run programs using modified Windows APIs as native as possible on an x86 chip.
If you have ever used Mac-On-Linux or even the classic environment in MacOS X then you should know what I mean. It is not emulation, but is not at full speed and not fully compatible.

If WINE was ever ported they would have to add an emulation layer to translate the APIs to code the PowerPC chip could understand and by doing so it would decrease its speed significantly. theoretically since this would be more at the system core level and no less of a Windows overhead than say an emulator like VirtualPC it would have the potential to be a bit faster than VPC. With some serious tinkering it could even be possible to make the Windows apps fully Aqua compatible (such as what OroborOSX does for XDarwin/X11 applications).

Something tells me that you don't read Japanese very well. This appears to be a patient care programme, not a Windows emulator.

Does anyone know if http://www.transgaming.com/ has any intention of porting WineX to Mac OS X?

ive used wine on linux and it is a pretty nice program... it, however, is not meant for games.. it has very limited support and is NOT an emulator.. it runs the apps with the os'es resources..

it has reasonable speeds.. but is meant for using stuff like ms word, and fairly simple programs like that...

i wouldnt be surprised if this is real, and not a virus or a trojan or whatever... maybe it doesnt run all that great, but ill bety wine will be proted to mac os x sometime..

A heavily modified WINE is the basis of the LindowsOS too. I'd love to see this ported to the Mac also. I'm going to have two machines when I have the money to get a Mac and getting rid of one monopolized, ugly, power-sucking pc would lift a lot of weight off my shoulders.

actually, WineX IS made for games, as it can run Max Payne, Warcraft III, GTAIII and a bunch of other games under linux

but Wine doesnt emulate anything. it just makes windows programs use the windows dlls under linux.

I can't believe this thread is still alive. The programme in question doesn't run Windows programmes.

If WINE isn't an emulator, then it would be a copyright issue. It intercepts calls to Windows functions and then calls the appropriate functions in x86 Linux (and whatever GUI, windowing system, etc.) to allow it to emulate what Windows would be doing.

ouch jadam. get some ram dude, like now. 512MB chips of CL2 for the iBook have gone back down to like $130 again.

yeah i wish i could afford that :(

but anyways, Wine would not work under OSX at all because that would require Macs to start using x86 processors which they will never use. :p
