Not even sure if the program works on Mac but how long do you think it would take to unrar a 7.0gb file on the 2.66ghz iMac and the 2.0ghz Mac Mini?

There is Winrar for Mac too. Check this out. Hard to say how long it'd take but if you leave it for night it should be done at morning.

Dude, are you serious?!

My 1.8ghz amd duo does a 7gb file in about 40 mins. You think I could cut that time in half with the iMac?

I don't know how fast files unzips

Yup, it should be a lot faster in iMac, but you have both iMac and that 1.8GHz AMD crap, so why you need to do that on iMac? You could just use your Mac and let the PC (is it PC?) to do the unzipping.

I would expect the file extraction not to take much more than 20 minutes.

Not likely -- something like extracting large archives is most likely I/O bound, not CPU bound, so what's going to matter the most is the speed of your hard disk. You might get somewhat faster speeds, but I wouldn't count on halving the time.

The AMD isn't crap and I don't own a Mac. Was seconds away from getting one today but couldn't push myself to purchase.

Sorry if I hurt you. When you buy a Mac, all PCs are crap after that. I struggled with my PC laptop today for an hour when I installed Office (illegally downloaded of course) and new anti-virus program for it. It was pain. I had to allow 100 million times something that I don't even need and type admins password for at least 50 times. Now it works fine, but it was SO painful compared to Mac

There is a good chance that that was because office was illegally downloaded though.

Nah, Office behaved nicely, it didn't complain but the new anti-virus software (which isn't downloaded) struggled.

Anti virus software, that brings me back. I hated anti virus software nearly as much as the virus'

I can't take it. Apple Customer support is actually dedicated to helping and not 'listening' to any problem. I thought it was just a rare occassion when they went out of their way to help me with my iphone and ipod but all I keep hearing is good things about Apple's great support.

It's definitely swayed me and I'll be returning to Future Shop tomorrow to purchase my Mac.

Wow, that sort of hyperbolic rhetoric is certainly going to make the message more accurate and believable.
