Hello, I am new to iPhone, bought it yesterday.

However I know about jailbreaking and that you can change all the icons/backgrounds using winterboard.

I use o2 UK so dont need to unlock it.
However Winterboard is very appealing.

Is the only way of getting winterboard to jailbreak first and get cydia ?

Also, once installed winterboard and changed homescreen, Would I be able to
1. delete cydia/winterboard apps
2. Update using future firmwares from apple.

Im guessing no to the firmware question :(

I really want winterboard, but also want the simpleness of getting all updates straight away simply.

Dont want to keep unlocking etc etc like I used to on WindowsMobile 6

You can't use winterboard yet until it's been updated to work with the 3GS* You can jailbreak right now though. You can use future firmwares BUT will have to wait for the dev team to bring out a new tool so you can jailbreak on the new firmwares etc..

Sorry I forgot to mention I got a 3g. I didnt care about any new features of the 3GS

I think yo have to keep cydia and winterboard apps on there

just use redsn0w to jailbreak and add cydia and you;re good to go

Sorry about that :p. Not too sure about having to keep winterboard on there after changing the theme, I'm guessing you would have to as it has the themes associated with it. You might want to SSH into your phone and change things that way if you don't want winterboard etc on your springboard?
