WIP game graphics

It's for a game I've been planning to make for years now. I've got the engine worked out and have moved onto graphics. This is just a mockup screen done in Pixen. Opinions, C&C?

I really like the landscape but I am not so sure about the sky.

They look interesting, but I always like blue sky and green trees.

There's just something about blue trees that bother me...

What colors are the antagonists and protagonists? Obviously, you want a lot of contrast between what will be the foreground elements (like the characters and interactive elements). As such, I can't really tell if your design presents the kind of contrast necessary.
