Hi,
I have an iPhone 6s that died in the middle of a iOS upgrade. It is now stuck in recovery mode and the apple genius bar guy said it is a hardware problem and is no longer under warranty. I'm looking to cut my losses, and have removed find my phone lock from iCloud.com and plan to sell this on eBay. Is there a way to also do a hard data wipe without access to the settings menu? Or is putting the phone in dfu mode or using iTunes to recover automatically wipe the phone? I'm just concerned that someone shouldn't be able to access personal content on the phone (not concerned whether every physical bit/byte is erased off the phone)

If you can get to DFU & start the installation then the device would not be able to retrieve any data as far as I can see.
