Is it possible to do a data wipe and factory reset of my iPod nano (7th gen) without connecting it to iTunes? The reset option only restores factory settings but do not delete synced content. I know such option exists on iPod Touch and iPhone, but not sure about iPod nano (Google search said there is a way but the webpage instructions make no sense).

Also, if iTunes must be used to do a factory reset, can this be done entirely offline? Or does iTunes need to connect to Apple server to "verify" like for iPhone and iPad? Asking because the iPod and the laptop belong to the person whom I am helping currently live in a cabin on a "no internet" family vacation at the countryside without any internet access.

You have to restore it through iTunes, it's not like an iOS device where you can completely wipe it from the device itself. You will also need an internet connection since iTunes has to download the firmware as part of the restore process.
