Do you have an external drive? If so, download Carbon Copy Cloner and make a backup of your existing drive to the external. Then you can boot off the external drive, go go Disk Utility, wipe your internal drive, then go to the App Store and pick the wiped drive for the install.
At least that's how I figure I'll do it...

Is there no such thing as like with Windows? Like put in a USB with the new OS image, pick the USB stick as boot device and launch the image file...?
That might be possible; I dunno. I'll admit I haven't ever bothered doing a fresh install of OSX. I want to do it on my Mini... it's had a few weird issues ever since I went to Mavericks, so figured a fresh one is worthwhile.
I'm curious if I can just upgrade my laptop, which has Public Beta 6 on it.

if you have everything you need backed up, then download yosemite, run lion disk maker from http://liondiskmaker.com (will probably be updated to final version soon) on a 8gig usb flash drive. once that's done, restart the system, and hold option key before the chime sound. select the usb flash drive with the installer, go to disk utility, delete the partition with the old os, go back through menus, and install the new one.
I use the createinstallmedia Terminal method with an 8Gig flash drive and then boot using the option key and choose the USB drive and then open disk utility, erase the Macintosh HD, and then proceed to close that and run the installer. Never had any problem. And I never upgrade an OS...I always backup and wipe the drive. I find it runs a lot better. Same with iOS, I always do a restore from scratch with every .0 release.

Is there a in depth tutorial? Especially how do i get the 10.10 file on the USB stick and what Terminal commands to use?
if i read that correctly, the instructions tell you to install yosemite twice: once to upgrade over your current os, and then to redownload and reinstall from the recovery menu. that's gonna take several hours....

The tutorial link that greenmeanie posted is what I use....Just download Yosemite from MAS, and then run the tutorial and boot from the USB drive using Option Key held down at startup.
Then go into disk utility, click on Macintosh HD and then the erase tab, and erase. Then close it and run the installer.
Well technically that's for Mavericks but I guess it's possible to do the same with Yosemite? I'm not sure.
AWESOME! Thank you. I'm getting my iMac ready for a full erase and install of Yosemite. Just wanted to make sense of all this before I do it.
