iPod WIRED article about site / correct distorted Mp3's

Howdy Folks:

I read a small article in WIRED - maybe November 07 issue - about distortion experienced on downloaded Mp3's - why this happens and what you can do to convert them - they mentioned a web site /Software name - but cant find any info on it anywheres- and of course the article is my mates WIRED so cant get that info right now

Anyone ?
