i have a wired keyboard attached to my 2013 iMac and every so often it doesn’t work after restarting computer. I usually have to unplug it and restart Mac again but this time I’ve tried restarting a few times and still not detecting it.

Any advice or fixes?

Temporarily eliminate any USB hub the keyboard might be plugged into.

Replace the cable.

Replace the keyboard.

In general, you should be able to plug in a USB keyboard and have it be recognized, without needing to restart the computer. One exception to that rule is if there are special extensions for a specific keyboard, and the keyboard must be detected at startup for those extensions to work. For example, gaming keyboards might have such extensions, or other specialized keyboards.

I've had 2 wired and 2 wireless keyboards (all Apple) go out on me in the last 18 months. They are old, and I type a lot. In my experience once they start to go it doesn't get better, only worse.
