iPad mini Wired mic/earphones with iPad Mini?

Does anybody know if a generic wired earphone/mic will work in the mini-audio jack on the iPad mini? Obviously the earphones will work, but will the wired mic? I'm thinking of Skype, etc.

I don't need voice/audio enough to warrant a new bluetooth set and I'd rather use all these generic, wired combo earphone/mics that came with my (gasp!) Blackberry.

Have you tried them? If you already have some maybe give them a try.

I bought these Sony headphones and they work great but were labeled as working with iPhone/iPod/iPad. It may have had to do with the remote controls wired into them.
