Wired writer blast 11.6 screen as it induces squinting!?!

I'm really interested by the 11.6 MBA but after reading this review I've got some chill....

So what about real user field? Do you get eye-fatigue using your 11.6 MBA all day long?

While I only had just over 48 hours with my 11" MBA, I have to somewhat agree that the screen did bother me for reading sites such as MR. I would use the zoom feature as even with setting the font size some sites were still a bit tough to read when the MBA was 24" or so away. The comparison I made is to the iPad which I have no issues reading the same page, but the difference is the MBA is sitting on my lap/desk etc... usually twice the distance as the iPad which is usually held much closer to me.

I now have the 13" and find the screen much nicer to work with, the 11" is a sleek, lightweight bada$$ looking laptop but as stated in the review, longer periods of use will reveal it is a pretty cramped (screen not keyboard) computing experience. Some will be fine with it's size, it simply wasn't for me.

Comments show only one thing. People don't really know much about computer. They just compare apples to oranges and think its heavily underpowered. I think the 100's of macbook air users from these boards, the reviews and benchmarks will tell you, the new MBA's are more than capable.

I thought the review was good.

Anyone buying it to use and stare at for hours on end should get a bigger screen.

I bought my to use the way he described it should be used ... for me it will replace my iPad not my computer(s).

I don't notice to much difference in my 13 from the 11 i was using a few days ago.

Just used mine from 8-midnight and other than it being midnight, i feel fine. I love the higher density screen

I read the wired review and although I do not doubt the pixel density issue, the entire article was horrible link bait. The review could have been written by someone that never touched a new MacBookAir


If this is the quality of Wired print and Conde Naste in general, I'm happy I do not waste my money. No print or iPad downloads for me.

I went to the Apple Store with the intent of getting the 11, but the tiny text turned me off and I went with the 13 instead. I'm very happy with the decision.

Compared to the old 13,3" macbook, sure, the text is small, but compared to the new one which also has a higher resolution the text is not much smaller than the 13,3" at all. Just a bit, if you got a eyeproblem with the new 11", you will with the new 13,3" as well.

I'd consider the physical needs over the viewing needs.

You can always make fonts bigger, icons larger, hide the dock or less clutter your desktop.

You can't make a 13 inch lighter or smaller when crammed in the middle seat of a plane or lugging around text books in your bag or sitting in a coffee shop table with you paperwork and books and cup of coffee on the two seated table.

An 11 inch is small but your viewing is adjustable. That's why this isn't an iPad. You can customize your Mac to your prefs.

Make web site bigger and fonts bigger and scale you icons larger. This isn't a biggie.

While I'm fortunate to have excellent vision, the difference is not so much in the text size, but rather the reflective nature of the display. If it was a true matte display there would be no issue. (unless of course you have less that 20/20)

I don't know who originated the glossy display but it's an eye doctors dream.

Serious work or play in front of a glossy display for long periods _will_ take it's toll sooner or later boys and girls...

Spoiled writers who use hi-res screens that can't separate themselves from their work shouldn't write anything.

I've used the MBA after having used my 27" iMac. Yes, the screen res is different.... But that doesn't mean I will hate everything with a smaller screen!

It's a small screen. If you have to squint, you should probably get your eyes checked.

By the way, a company does offer matte screens for the MBA 11.6 but they swap out the entire monitor and bezel. It's not a film or an add on to the screen but an actual matte screen itself.

When the anointed one, is all his wisdom , made a decision to discontinue matte displays on MacBook Pros I saw this companys work, it's very nice. A bit pricey, but that's just a fact of life in AppleLand.

Fortunately the uproar and rukus from customers that make their living using their laptops, caused the supreme leader to cave in. Unannounced in the middle of the night, he creeped in and silently added it back to the list of "options". Getting greedy, he decided to charge us extra for what used to be standard, and off he laughed all the way to the bank. What a slippery dude.

Are you near sighted or far sighted?

If your hand is blurry when you look at it don't bother...

if you can't read a billboard.. but can see an ants legs at 2ft then go for it.
