Hi Forum,

All the Gear

- Apple M1 PRO 2021 16 inch model with 32GB of RAM running MacOS Ventura 13.5.1.
- Samsung S95B 2022 4K Television supporting AP 2.

I have a 4K file on Macbook and when I screen mirror, the options limit the resolution of the 4K stream to 1080p. The way to get around this is:

1. Buy an Apple TV, which I believe gives the 4K resolution in display settings.
2. Connect a HDMI cable between the MB and TV and select the 4k resolution in display settings.

...but no idea.

Question - How can I wirelessly mirror the 4K file in full 4K without an Apple TV?

- Maybe if I installed Windows on this machine instead of MACOS, I could do that? Not sure what the Windows experience would be like on a M1 Pro. I have no idea if this is true. Just assuming.

- Is it possible to spin up a virtual Windows Machine on the macbook, store the 4K files in that Windows machine and then wirelessly stream across to the TV?

Anyone got any experience here?

Thanks

When you say "video device" - are you referring to the TV?

If so, your comment is not true. My TV supports AirPlay 2 and the MAC limits the screen mirroring to 1080p. Similar issue found here:

The MAC limits the wireless stream to 1080p regardless of TV having AirPlay 2. I do not have an Apple TV 4K so can't confirm or deny if Airplaying to this a Apple TV 4K device will produce different results.

Yes, I was referring to a TV or streaming stick/box. Upon more searching, you are correct because I see no way to stream from a MacBook in 4k.

Not sure if there is any way to stream in 4k using an app such as Infuse Pro. I use Infuse Pro on my Apple TV to stream 4k movies from my NAS.

Crazy right.

I've found a way by connecting a HDMI cable directly to the TV.

Not sure if by having a 4K Apple TV it would make a difference meaning you stream to the TV through the ATV. Wouldn't surprise me if Apple made it possible this way to gain some extra £££

My ATV is connect to my receiver and the receiver is connected to the TV.

My NAS is connected to my router over Ethernet and the ATV is connected to the router via WiFi.

You won't get 4K through a Mac. You can only get 4K with Apple TV
