Wireless Access Point Recomendations

My fourth Wireless Access Point died 2 days ago. Back to using wired routers.

It was a Linksys WAP54g. Worked for about 6 months and basically the Wireless just stopped.

Before that I had a Belkin 54g Wireless Router and that did the same thing, just stopped working one day. Seems common with wireless routers. I had this replaced twice (on the last occsaion the new one lasted two days before it stopped) before getting the Linksys.

The Apple Base Station seems so expensive, don't see the point in the modem and have heard that it can be tempremental about distance.

So basically does anyone have a wireless router recomendation, one that will hopefully last for more than year before giving up the ghost.

If you don't need any extra ethernet ports for hardwiring other machines to the router, look at the Express. You get AirTunes and I find them to be very reliable although they have their glitches and lemons, just like any piece of technology. Otherwise, I'd generally recommend another Linksys.

How can you possibly be going through so many though? I've had the same two Expresses for ages now with no hassle (touch wood). Do you use them as a Frisbee?

I've used a D-Link 624 for a couple of years now without any major problems.

I've heard good things about the Linksys routers, and am surprised you've gone through 4 of them.

I'd try a D-Link, another LinkSys, or something by NetGear... the Apple ones are overpriced.

Well the count is 3 Belkin (they are crap) and 1 Linksys. At least belkin customer services replaced them and responded quickly to emails. Linksys have yet to reply to my emails.

The Express? I didn't realise that worked as an access point. Thank's I'll look into that one now.

hi guys

i already have a safecom 4 port adsl modem/router would i need to just buy a wireless access point and plug that into my router to transmit a signal which i could connect to wirelessly

also i dont need to have my mac that is connected to the adsl/router powered on right , just power on the router and wap and my other macs should pick the signal up

one more thing is it just buy wap plug in router and off i go or do i need to configure wap (wireless access point) in osx as well as the router i have which is alreay set up !!
