Wireless charging possible?

iPads require way more power / voltage for charging the whole battery to 100% within a reasonable time. Wireless charging is too slow at present to be useful in practical terms.
I’ve already gone rounds with someone about this so not going to rehash it all, but the short answer is no. It’s way too inefficient and the charging pad would have to be huge in order to avoid having to continually reposition the iPad over the charger so the induction coils are positioned correctly.
I agree. We probably won’t see wireless charging for iPads for awhile. But perhaps the 2nd gen Apple Pencil will have this feature.
I don’t think they will, but if they were to, I could see them going with iPhone 5 look. Glass on top and bottom where it could charge on the edge of charger. Current iPads charge at 10 watts out of box and iPhone X at 7.5 so it’s not far off. Maybe they could make it 10 for iPad.
Not going to happen. 10 watts is less than the standard iPad charger that comes with the iPad....and it doesn’t charge really all that quick as it is. At least with plugging it in you can still use the iPad while it’s charging. Who’s going to want to stop using their iPad for even longer just for the benefit of not plugging it in? Get what I’m saying? Plus, as I’ve already mentioned....a charging pad for a iPad is going to have to be huge. Nobody wants the majority of their end table taken up by a charging pad. For these reasons don’t count on wireless charging for iPads any time soon.
The standard iPad charger is supposedly a 12 watt. It still doesn’t change anything, for the reasons I’ve stated already, it still isn’t going to happen.
Induction charging is not real efficient so if using with a 10 watt charger you would be lucky to get over 5 watts in the iPad. It is just not practical and would take a huge coil and lots of wattage.
The best workaround for this is the Logi BASE. I've used it for the last couple of iterations of iPad Pros (with the smart connector) and it's fantastic. No messing around with cables, just put it in the dock at the end of the day. Hoping that Apple keep the smart connector in the next gen so I can keep using it.
If they can have wireless charging electric cars, they can have wireless charging iPads... the main issue is doing so without compromising ergonomics.
They should make it wireless charging only. If people want to plug in they can get a case with the coils built in and plug that in. Tiny phone size coils can go 10 watts so there is no reason apple cant do a larger 20 watt iPad coil. I would love to have a built in spot on my desk I can set the iPad down to charge. It would always be charged and I would probably never use the charging port.
