I have a remote 2010 MBA that failed to reconnect to an AirPort Extreme after a power outage. It is set to automatically connect to the Extreme's SSID. I ran Wireless Diagnostics but am confused by this message from the Assistant:

You are connected to a Wi-Fi network that cannot communicate with your wireless router.

At the time that message was generated the MBA was connected to WiFi, was able to connect to the Internet and I could use Airport Utility to check the Extreme's settings:

What does that statement actually mean?

For a much longer description of the problem and my attempts to solve it, look here: Help Me Understand Wireless Diagnostics

Then try to the steps in Apple Support document Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac to reset the Airport card!
I already did that. I noted this in the longer thread which nobody read.

So, if you put answers to all anticipated questions in an original post, it gets so long that no one reads it. If you post a short version, then people suggest things that you've already tried.

No way to win.

Then if you running an older version Of OS X then try this step:

System Preferences->Network pane, at the top of that pane is the 'Location' pull-down. Use that to select 'EditLocations ' and in the pop-out click on the + symbol to add a new custom named Location (calling it what you like) and then saving that in the pop-out, Network main page. Don't worry because it will act the same as 'Automatic', you just giving it a custom name. Then Use the System Preferences->Network pane, Airport card to rejoin your wireless network.

OK. I’ll give Locations another shot. I won’t be visiting that site until mid or late March, so will have to wait until then unless you’ve got an idea of how to do it remotely.

That machine has both a reverse ssh tunnel and a VNC server.

I don't understand why you say that. I have carefully read and responded to every suggestion you have made. When I replied to your suggestion about using a Location I was away from home and wasn't able to log on remotely to check. As soon as I got home I logged on to the machine in question to see whether or not I was already using a Location on that computer. As you can see from the screen shot I posted I was indeed already using a Location in the Network preferences.

Anyway, thank you for the time you have spent.
