So of course in the C2D macbooks there is the wireless N chip and once it's activated it will let use the draft N.

My question is when 802.11 N is ratified and there is a set standard will a software update allow the chip to run the full N or will we always be stuck on draft n?

A year ago I would have said, 'Who knows' because so many different manufactures had many different takes on the same draft. By now, the draft is probably pretty close to what the final will be and gaps are closing between each manufacturer. If I had to make up a percentage, I'd say that there is a 95% chance a firmware update will take the card to the final N version.

This is why Apple is making the N plunge now, meaning they're betting that nothing is going to change significantly.
