Wireless hard drive

My PowerBooks hard drive only has a few GBs left.
I want to get a wireless hard drive of some sort.
I have an Airport-Extreme base station and a D-Link router.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I'm assuming you mean a standard network hard-drive that you would directly connect to the router, and then access the network via your Airport Extreme.

There are many network drives out there, what kind of size/speed/price are you looking for?

Doing a quick search on newegg.com for 'network hard drive' I see 18 choices, how do you like this one:link
It has gigabit ethernet, a DHCP server to connect to, etc., for about $240 USD. I don't know about the company, but there seem to be lots of options.

In any case, this is a pretty poor way to do it, since your data transfer rates will be abysmal compared with an internal drive, or even an external FireWire or USB drive. I'd suggest purchasing a LaCie external FW drive and be done with it.

100-160GBs/7200 RPM/hopefully below $300.

Yeah, I don't want to lug around an external HD all over the house.

Asus make one I think.

Standalone, just plug in a drive.

It's just under $200AUD.

Fair enough, although they are pretty small.

I suppose it all comes down to how often you'll be using it. Sounds like some of the network ones are pretty cool, and the sharing aspect is nice if you have multiple computers you want to share it with.

You will have to wait until UltraWideBand is out (Wireless USB, "Wireless FireWire").

Around the house? Hmm, I don't know how the range/speed thing will pan out...

"WUSB is rated for up to 480 Mbps at distances up to 3 m and up to 110 Mbps at distances of 10 m."

Probably better off with a network drive and 802.11n in you case.

That looks like a fine choice for the needs you've stated. You just plug in an Ethernet cable between the drive and your Airport Extreme, this way you'll have an IP address that you can point to and have access just like you would on a standard LAN. There should be plenty of explanations of how to do this in the box, or with a quick Google search.
