I'm currently exploring options for a new headset to use with my mac studio. I'm one of those weirdos that plays games on a mac, so not only do I want good sound quality, I want a decent mic on it as well and I prefer completely over the ear headphones.

My current Razer headset is on it's last leg of life and most gaming headsets are not compatible with macs to use all their options and functions so I don't really want to go that route again either.

I've been considering getting the AirPods Max and an external mic, but I'm wondering if anyone has some good recommendations of an all-in-one wireless option for both sound and voice.

THANK YOU!

Why wouldn't you use the mic(s) on the AirPods Max? Is it a game compatibility thing?

Having asked that…based on my experience with Bluetooth and my own Mac Studio I'd be surprised if anything wireless worked reliably.

That is certainly also an option, I guess I'm just not sure how good the quality of the mic is on the AirPods Max.

What do you mean when you say "good sound quality"?

I have a $200 set of headphones that I got for music production and I don't think I'd be happy with anything that costs less than those. I use them for the occasional game but, in my case, a mic isn't needed.

I did get a $25 USB headphone/mic set for gaming that works great and sounds good enough for games…if I ever need them for that.

I love my Corsair headset:

It has multiple ways to connect to devices: Bluetooth, a USB wireless transmitter, wired USB, and a wired speaker cable.

I primarily use the wireless transmitter for my main Mac, and I use the wired speaker cable plugged into my work laptop headphone port. When the battery dies (power not needed for speaker cable) I plug in the USB cable and just charge it while using either the wired USB connection or the wireless transmitter.

At one point, I was using it for a total of three different computers, one wired USB, one with the transmitter, and one with the speak cable, it worked pretty seamlessly.

The sound quality is pretty good, imo.

It has color changing lights, but I am really not sure of the reason for it as you can't see them while wearing the headphones. I guess they can be helpful with telling if it is powering on or off.

Speaking of powering on or off, it has an auto on and off feature so you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn them off.

The biggest downside is the mic, there is a button on it that turns the mic on or off, which it used to work flawlessly, but after a few months, sometimes it automatic turns itself on or off. It doesn't happen non-stop, but maybe once or twice a day. It may have been to me laying the headset down a particular way. I have since got a hanger that I attached to my desk to hold the headset, but I think the damage was done. The mic is removable, which is nice.
