Wireless Inductive Charging - The real reason for headphone jack removal

Simple-- Wireless charging.

The iPhone X will be charged wirelessly, so you won't need the stupid lightning port in the first place. You'll be able to charge and use headphones at the same time with this technology, so that issue is erased.

I'm assuming they will release some sort of charging hub with close/medium range capability, so you can charge all your iDevices around you without plugging anything in. Wouldn't be surprised if the newest edition Macbook Pro acts as a hub as well. Lightning will probably be reserved for quick boosts/overnight, while the predominance of charging stations will slowly keep your devices topped throughout the day or even longer.

What purpose would a headphone jack serve once this technology is available? None really. They're pulling off the bandaid now and biting the bullet, so next year they can introduce this "revolutionary" tech on the 10 year anniversary and get everyone going bananas without feeling the negative effects of a drastic change.

Apple would definitely do **** like that. Good luck finding a compatible wireless charges without carrying one with you. It's hard enough finding a lightning cable sometimes when you're not at home.

I think the reason for going wireless is so that they work with the watch (and it was mentioned in the presentation).

The watch now has a GPS. All it needs is a SIM slot and in a few years you'll be able to ditch the phone all together.

Looking over yesterday's Apple coverage, I picked up on a quip by a well-known industry insider and friend of Apple, Jim Dalrymple. In his discussion concerning killing the 3.5mm aux port, he said the following:

"This is the most controversial part of Apple’s announcements today. But they signalled, very clearly, that this is what they think the future will be. Keep this in mind when, next year, they offer wireless charging."

Dalrymple is always very careful with his words and has many "little birdies." When he speculates, he disclaims that it's speculation. He didn't do that here.

My problem with wireless charging is that it seems to need a pad or hub. I've got little kids and my charger goes away after each use it it gets dragged around the house. Is this even more of a hassle for those with little ones?

I've got a 5-year-old and a new one arriving in October. My solutions:

• Close the door to that room.
• Tell them it's off-limits.
• Put it out of reach (dresser, bookshelf, entertainment center, etc.).
