Wireless issue with MBP

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of an issue with my MBP (SR 2.2). The problem is that I can't view any web pages, check email...basically I can't connect to the Internet.

The thing is I have a full wireless signal, it says I am connected to the Internet. My sister's wireless PC laptop works fine and my desktop (via ethernet).

It's sort of intermittent at times, every now and then it will load like 60% of a site and then stop.

I don't know if it's a hardware or software issue. Seems to of gotten* gradually worse over the last few days. When I 'renew DHCP' it sort of improves it, but only for a short time.

Also something else, I'm not sure if it's important I installed mySQL on my MBP, but I don't even have it running.

Any advice or insight would be really appreciated. Thank you.
 
I'm sorry for your problem, but as far as I know it shouldn't be a hardware problem. Most likely it's just a wrong configuration of your airport.

The signal indicates full, meaning that you're connected to the wireless network with perfect reception --- which doesn't means that you've got a meaningful IP address, or correct configuration.

So, get someone (professional or even Computer Science students) to resolve it.
 
Is WLAN activated in the router? Any restrictions (MAC-Addresses?) Hmm has the router been setup properly with the data of your ISP? Is it connected to the internet?

Sometimes you configure all that stuff but forget to connect the router to the ISP.
 
hmm..well its still not working properly. My MBP has been working fine for ages on my router. it's only been for the last few days that it's playing up. Argh it's really frustrating.
 
My connection has improved slightly. I basically de-activated root user (I used it to install mySQL) and I'm able to sort of surf the net. Still very laggy and a pain in the arse....anyone else got some ideas? lol
 
I have been having problems just like you. I think its a driver/firmware issue. There have been other people with the same problem. I hope 10.4.11 or 10.5 will resolve it all. It is really annoying for me also. I have to disconnect airport and enable it again to fix it for 5 mins.

A good way to make sure it isn't a problem with your router, is to see if it works in other places with free internet. Go to a local coffee shop with free internet, or a friend's house, and see if the problem persists. If it does, you know for sure it isn't just a problem with your mbp and your router, it's a problem with your mbp. If it works at your friend's house, then you know that your mbp and the router aren't playing nice.
 
Hello,thanks for the reply. I didnt really explain my situation. Right now i have tried 2 different routers. The current one is an Zxyel X550 and this one disconnects the wireless. I have also tried a Buffalo router with DD-WRT (now used as a wireless bridge) and what the mbp would do is say that the wireless network has been comprimised, and it would disconnect the airport for 1 minute. The kicker is that the buffalo was using wpa2 with a good password. So that is why i think it is the macbook pro. Also my windows machines work fine right now (yet my mbp lost connection). What do u think it is? Driver related?
 
If you think it's a firmware issues you could reinstall OS X off the install disks and not allow it to update to.... probably 10.4.10, I know some people were having airport issues with that update.
 
I just plugged an ethernet in, browsed a bit and then took it out and just used the aiport and it seems fine now. weird eh? I'll play around a bit more and see if it happens again.
