I interpret that colon plus bracket as you being sad about this.
If you notice, in System Preferences > Bluetooth > Advanced there is an option to wake the computer via a Bluetooth device. That could not be possible, if the devices couldn't send a signal, which requires power.

But don't worry, you can turn the devices off via their Off switch, and if not, the (hopefully good) batteries will hold up to 9 months on moderate use.

Do yourself a favor and get some good rechargeable batteries. My rechargeables take just 15 minutes to charge and last just as long as non-rechargeable ones.

Rechargeable batteries are great! Sanyo Eneloops are especially good for this type of application -- they hold their charge for years. (versus months like other rechargeable batteries)

I could live with 9 months;)

I could also turn off the mighty mouse and the keyboard while I am away, right?:)

I've been using my mighty mouse for one-week today. The battery's charge is already down to 75%. At this rate my battery will have to be replaced after one-month of use. I tend to rest my hand on the mouse even when not using it. Could this be contributing to my battery discharging so rapidly. The keyboard's charge is at 100% despite quite a bit of use.

Absolutely, but it's always nice to eliminate having to turn it on and off each time you want to use the computer. With a good charger, such as a Maha-9000, you can just leave a set of batteries on them since it runs a trickle charge and then it's no biggie if you switch the batteries out every few weeks.

Of course, it's all personal preference and each person will prefer to do it differently.

Battery draining wireless keyboard :-(

Having my wireless alu keyboard since it's out...
Been loving it all this time, except since 3 weeks... its draining battery like crazy. A set of good Energizer batteries will last about a week (moderate use)...
Am wondering if it doesn't coincide with the acquisition of the MagicMouse...

Am I the only one ?

We've had our C2D for one month now. Keyboard battery level is at 100%, mouse is at 37%. We shut the system down at 11 pm and start it back up @ 7 am.

Mine started when I installed the Magic Mouse drivers (before 10.6.2 was released)

There is an article I read somewhere stating something along the lines that it was a problem with the Magic mouse that was causing battery to drain. I can't remember where I saw the post but I think I read it in an RSS feed.

The article mentioned that it was the older keyboard (3 battery ones) that were having the most troubles vs the newest 2 battery ones. Don't know if there is any truth to that or not.

I surf with the magic mouse but game with a Razer mouse.

I personally shut my keyboard and mouse off when I shut down the machine.
