Hi forum

I'm stuck in a never ending loop.

I have a imac 24 with wireless keyboard - the problem I have is that the batteries were low on the keyboard and the connectivity was lost.

I went to find some new ones and installed them.

On my screen the power save password was on screen and guess what? - that's right!! I can't type my password in.

If I reboot it brings the same password screen up with no keyboard connectivity.

I really don't want to buy a usb keyboard to resolve this.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to put in the batteries, power-on the keyboard and it should start working.

Otherwise I'd plug-in a USB keyboard and use that until you fix the problem.

Yes the batteries are brand new.

Looks like I'll be spending $30 on a new usb keyboard :(

There are lots of options... borrow from work or a friend. Find a used computer shop and buy one there. But really, brand new keyboards are under 10 bucks... if you just need it temporarily there is no need to spend 30 bucks on a new one.

I was under the impression that bluetooth was handled at such a low level in Apple computers that the keyboard could even be used in the early stages of boot?

This was certainly the case back when I had a G4 Mac mini, but I haven't used a desktop Apple system since.

Did the intel architecture scupper this particular functionality?

Oh, and how on earth do you NOT have a USB keyboard!? I've got two just sitting in a box on my kitchen table and at least 5 more upstairs.

I also don't have a USB keyboard ( my parents do , though ). What I do have is a Ps/2 keyboard :p

I think I've got one or two of those, too, plus a couple of Dreamcast ones for reasons that I can't even imagine. I should rent my loft out to the junk lady from Labyrinth.

Do you have such a adapter to convert Ps/2 to USB ? I do. Pretty handy , although I never use it.

If you have PS/2 keyboard, with the adapter - you can convert it to USB .

Strangely enough, I have a Steelseries 7g keyboard which is a reasonably modern keyboard that forces you to use a PS/2 connection for some reason or another. It takes 2 USB ports, one of which is adapted from PS/2. It's a good keyboard if you don't mind being blinded by the LEDs.

I wish Apple would produce a wireless keyboard with Home/End and a Numpad.

They did, right? and I believe you can still get it with a Mac , as an option. I could be mistaking , but im pretty sure that thats possible.

Lol if you lived near me you could borrow one of mine (I have a couple). But if you buy a crappy keyboard its not that expensive. You could also borrow one from a friend...
