I made an impulse purchase on buying the new aluminum wireless keyboard on the Apple HE Store UK online.... the discount was only 5 pounds (10%). Anyway, I currently live in a uni dorm and have no external monitor.

Does anyone use an external keyboard with their MB/MBP??????? Specifically talking about the wireless keyboard, is it more tactile than the MBP keyboard etc.???

I'm quite frustrated now cause I can't cancel the order since they've processed it already.

I feel that I can type quicker on a wireless / wired external keyboard. Not because the keys are somehow nicer (I love the softness of the MBP keys) but because you can reach them more easily.

On my 17" MBP I find myself having to position my hands and wrists in a weird way sometimes and it can become uncomfortable, thanks to the large area below the keyboard. But I can imagine this not being a problem on the 15" model.

The thing is with a laptop the idea is to be portable, even if it's only around the house. You can't have a keyboard on your lap along with a laptop while you're watching TV sat on the couch for example. That's why I only use an external keyboard now and then or when used in conjunction with an external display to get a more desktop like feel.

I use one - I do have an external monitor though.

Get a laptop stand of some sort. The new keyboards are excellent and you'll prefer typing on them.

Thanks for your testimonial.

The only reason I ordered the wireless keyboard is because I'm hypnotized by Steve Jobs and fell for its design, lol.

Anyway, I hope I'll make use of it. I like to keep some distance between the screen and my eyes and having an external keyboard will mean less reaching out for the built-in keyboard as the screen is pushed back towards the end of the desk.

I'll post some pic of my new MBP desktop set-up once my keyboard arrive (tomorrow, hopefully).

I have the logitech s530 keyboard/mouse combo, it is great, nice to type on. I place my mbp on top o the desk and the kb/mouse just sit on the kb tray, makes it more natural feeling than reaching up to type:) only caveat with this kb, due to it having function keys (itunes, iphoto etc) it doesn't take to kindly to being unpluged (dongle) this leads to inactivity of the special keys when you plug it back in unless you restart, the os doesn't seem to recognize it upon reinsertion... but otherwise great keyboard and mouse and highly recommended.
