Wireless keyboard

I have a new iMac with the wireless mouse and keyboard. I'm not clear whether the keyboard shuts down when I shut down the iMac or does it have to be turned off. The same goes for starting up. Does the keyboard start once the Mac is powered up or do I have to turn it on? It's difficult to tell if the keyboard is off when the computer is shut down.

Wireless KB and mouse are separate from your Mac, they must be manually switched off
