Wireless Might Mouse Cannot Connect without Reboot

Hi Wireless Might Mouse users,

Do any of you have this problem? When I switch on my keyboard, it connects immediately within the first few seconds. However, when I switch on my mouse, it never connects. The only way I can get it to connect is if I put my iMac to sleep and then wake it. Otherwise, no matter how many times I try, the mouse would never connect. This is not a big deal, since it only happens when I change the batteries, but it seems so odd that one connects so well while the other so poorly.

No replies? Does this mean everyone's wireless Mighty Mouse is able to connect to their Macs immediately with no problems whatsoever - no 30 seconds wait, or multiple switching on/off of the MM etc? Does this mean I have a faulty MM?

I replaced my batteries for the 2nd time a couple days ago and I had a bit of trouble this time.

I wouldn't recognize the mouse at all. I tried various things as you mentioned above but nothing. I realised I had put in one alkaline battery and one normal battery. I took out the normal and replaced with alkaline. I think it worked after about 20 seconds. been fine since then. I'm not sure if the battery was the problem or not though.

I really need to read up on the apple info regarding the wireless mouse and keyboard. they might have specific steps that are required when replacing batteries.

I am still using my original keyboard batteries after almost 3 months of pretty heavy use.

whereas I just installed my 3rd set of mouse batteries.

The lithiums lasted 2months and the 2nd pair (alkaline) lasted one month. In japan alkaline batteries cost about 20cents a battery. So I'm looking at 5 bucks a year in total for mouse battery costs.

I don't know how much lithium batteries cost but I'm guessing more than double that of alkaline.

Should I be turning my mouse off at nights?

Thank you for your reply. I only use the same batteries. At the moment, I am using rechargeable batteries. It's not that they don't work. It's just that it takes ages to connect.

I don't think there are really any steps... [1] replace battery, [2] replace cover, [3] flip the laser lens cover open, and [4] press the mouse button a couple of times and [5] wait. Unfortunately, step [5] for me is the problem. I'd have to reboot/sleep-wake for it to recognise my mouse.

Mouse batteries gets eaten up much faster than the keyboard because it needs to support a laser (or do Macs use IR beam?).
