My iMac's wireless mighty mouse is on the fritz. It scrolls up fine and side to side ok, but many times it is very erratic scrolling down. I looked for a way to take it apart to clean the little ball and surroundings but don't see any screws or a way to open it. Any help in getting this thing open or a fix to my problem is appreciated. Also, can anyone recommend a WIRED mouse to use if this one needs to go to the mouse graveyard. Thanks in advance.

There are a few threads about the Mighty Mouse already.
Some mention cleaning methods, and some discuss replacements from other manufacturers.

You could try:
wireless mouse
Nano, VX Nano
V470
logitech...

I won't take long to find it. ;)

It's a common problem for the mighty mouse. Apple recommend using a cloth, holding the mouse upside down on it and rigourously scrolling it. I sometimes have the cloth slightly damp.

I remember reading in other threads people using various combinations of cloths, alcohol, and compressed air. Seems a lot of aggravation, but unfortunately necessary. :(

When I was looking at the MM I went to Apples site and found a ton of complaints about this very problem. The Rocketfish Bluetooth mouse from Best Buy came highly recommended. I picked mine up and love it! I recommend this mouse as a better alternative to the MM. Good luck.-GF

I have two mighty mice. One wireless and one wired. The wireless one scrolls perfectly, but the wired one scrolled up and down poorly right out of the box.

Someone in these forums suggested using a clean sheet of notebook paper, hold the mighty mouse upside down on it and scroll in all directions for 30 seconds or so. This actually worked for me.

The scroll ball isn't that big of a deal. Turn it over and roll it on a clean rag every couple of weeks keeps it working. I eat and scroll with the same hand and not had any lasting scroll ball problem.

The real issue with the MM is the unreliable right click. I have to make sure I have no part of my hand on the left side of the mouse to make sure it right clicks.

Still I am willing to put up with it because it works so well in every other way.
