Wireless Mighty Mouse WWDC??

Why has Apple held out for so long? What are the odds that they will eventually release a wireless version? Are they afraid the wireless will cannibalize the wired mighty mouse? They can't keep this wirless one button mouse thing forever...can they?

Considering that Mac Users here on MR have had some issues with the wired MM, I do not see a wireless just yet, since it still has some bugs ether on the software or hardware level.

Second, the wireless single button mouse takes a lot of battery power (and this using energy saver mode). I go through the batteries every 3-5 weeks. Can you imagine what a wireless MM would be with sensors on both sides. Might be possible to get 2-3 weeks of battery life.

The MM has not seemed to be the fan favourite it should be.

But, i have yet to fiddle with one yet...

I reckon there will be since it just all fits in. Intel macs need the new wireless mighty mouse!

My tips for WWDC:

- iLife '06 and iWork '06 (new pages, keynote and "numbers" and "web")
- Yonah PBs
- Intel Mac Mini
- something cool no-one has thought of
- Bluetooth ipod socks

What if they included a rechargeable battery in the MM and had a charging dock for it? Is that too much? It would make replacing batteries much easier...

Although I dislike the Mighty Mouse, I think Apple really should release a BT version soon if they want it to become their "official" mouse. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something very unusual for a recharging solution.

the thing i like about the blue tooth mouse and my pb is that i don't have those ugly hubs taking up desk space, although prob. apple will design it so it wont look so fugly. Maybe they can add USB/firewire ports on it for easy access....

edit - i want them to make a revised ipod with the old plastic or whatever so its less easily scratched.

Can someone explain the fascination with Wireless keyboard and mouse?

The units I've used (albeit PC kit) suck their way through batteries and are not as reliable as wired sets.

Is it to save on the extra USB port or because people like slumping on the sofa working from a distance?

It's actually the flexibility that is granted upon those without being tied down with a wire. The wired mouse is far inferior in usage wise when compared to the wireless option. MO.

I'm not a big fan of wireless keyboards (but my iMac came with one. The wired set had not yet arrived). But the mouse is so nice (except the batteries). I'm not tied down to one area. If they can only figure a way to make them without batteries....

In my case, it's with a PowerBook. Need the mouse? take it out, turn it on.. no wear on the USB connectors on the laptop.

For the desktop, I use a wired mouse, although sometimes the mouse cable gets in the way. As ofr the keyboard, I would only use a wired keyboard with a desktop system - the cable does not get in the way and no need to worry about batteries.

Actually, I'd say iLife and iWork will be MWSF in January. The big thing for WWDC will be the Leopard preview.
