wireless music questions

hello!

i have an idea of what i want to accomplish, but i'm not entirely sure how to do so. i'm hoping some of you guys could help me out.

i want to be able to have a wireless speaker that i can bring around my apartment (most importantly, on my back porch), and wirelessly stream music to.

one idea is to stream music from itunes on my macbook in another room. i could then control that itunes with the remote app on my phone.

i don't carry music on my iphone, so would it be possible to stream music from my spotify app directly to the wireless speakers?



are either of these scenarios possible? i know i can buy an airport express and plug that into my speakers, but i want to be able to move my speakers around, especially bring them outside.

Move the speakers outside... so are you saying not tethered, no AC power, totally wireless?
 
yeah i'd like battery powered speakers that i can wirelessly play music on, either from my macbook or from my spotify account on iphone.
 
Check out the SONOS, they are kinda famous for iTunes wireless, but I don't know if they have battery-powered boxes.
 
What i do is use the program airfoil, which allows to send AND receive audio from/to you mac. I use and old 2nd gen ipod touch with the airspeakers app and a bose docking station which I can move anywhere within my wifi range..

There are a number of AirPlay enabled portable speaker systems. They're usually rather pricey though.

Since you have an iOS device, you can instead just pick up any portable radio that has at the least a phono in, but better yet a dock. Hook your iPhone up, turn on home sharing, and stream music from iTunes to your phone.
 
check out the iW1 from ihome. it's a bit cheaper than the bose.

I have the iW2, pretty much the same thing without the battery, and it sounds pretty good. Although form reviews, the iW1 doesn't sound as good, They did some reworking of the sound in the time between the release of the 2 units.
