wireless needed for i mac g3 graphite dv 400ghz os 10.2.5 what are my options for long range, appx 500yds inexpensive usb

Wireless does not stand a chance of going 500 yards. The only option would be wired, however you would need a lot of hubs etc to boost the power.

simple things first
for the iMac g3
you only get a airport card which is wireless b (11mbit/s) and range inside about 150 feet outside about 300 feet and that is pushing it already
the iMac g3 has usb 1.1 (12mbit/s)
so a wireless g which has the same range as b or wireless n which has a range of about 229feet inside and about 820 feet outside most dongles work on the iMac g3 with usb 1.1 but the distance is a bit to far
so what you need is that and some phone lines

buuuut there is a way with your standard airport card wireless b ,onnly needs some mods to aerial ,some boosters to get a higher gain signal and some parabolic directional antenna 's,
but not really what i would call a affordable way and certainly not easy to get wireless over that distance ,but possible
read the article here then you know what i mean :D

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2001/05/03/longshot.html

the conclusion of the experiment in the article is
Now that we've achieved Ethernet-like speeds over a 5-mile wide valley, and simulated a 20+-mile link over the same, we're preparing for our 21-mile shot. Our experiment proved that it is theoretically possible to drive 802.11b signals well over 20 miles, using stock equipment.

do you not have a telephone line in the house or cant you get one ?
you must live in a very remote location

and if you think about another computer, then i have to disappoint you , that wont solve the problem that wireless is not meant for long range
