I currently live in an co-op which is a student run housing and the only thing I have a problem with is connecting to the wireless internet here seeing how I am on the fifth floor. I can connect fine in the lobby and I have the password to get into it. The maintenance people mention they placed different wireless routers on every few floors to try to get internet access on all floors but the problem is where I live the signal is still too weak.
Is there anything I can buy to strengthen all signals it picks up? Like a middleman of some sort? Every signal I have is less than 1 bar. Ideally, I would like to place the device next to my laptop and hopefully pick up the existing signals, strengthen them and let my MBP pick it up. Would something like this work? If it matters, i use a Macbook Pro and I know the metal casing has to do with not being able to pick up the signals better. And if anything, does anyone have an alternative solution?
