I don't need printer for work or any fancy jobs. . I might average printing a page once every month. I want an inexpensive Wireless Airprint Lazer Monochrome printer to use with our Ipads and Iphones if needed. I had an Inkjet printer that didn't get much use and the ink cartridges dried all the time.I would appreciate any recommendations.

I use the Brother HL-L2340D which works great with all the random devices we have (including our iPhones and iPads). We got it awhile back so I’m not sure if they have a newer one... when we purchased it, it was around 100 bucks. The “starter” cartridge that came with it lasted us almost 2 years (we don’t print too much).

Not long ago I bought a Brother laser printer. It supports AirPrint and it's by far the best printer I've ever owned. Model number was HL-3140CW. They probably don't make that particular model anymore, but Brother is a really good printer brand.

I will never buy an inkjet again. I've had several in my life, and they always have the same issue: you spend a fortune on cartridges and eventually they either dry out from not being used enough, or they leak all over the inside of the printer and ruin it. I refuse to buy one again, especially if it's HP or Epson. The laser printers don't try out because the toner is dry powder. We've had our laser jet for about 2 years now, and I JUST changed the original black toner it came with about a week ago.

PS: I have used it with iPad, iPhone, and Mac and it works great with AirPrint with all those devices.

I often see good deals for Brother.

I have a Brother HL-3170CDW purchased for $170 in 2013 in my office. I don't print a lot to it and it's still using the starter set of toner cartridges.

Thanks. I found a Brother for about $130 at a local office supply store.

Got a little Samsung laser printer from Amazon warehouse deals. Only cost £49 two years ago. Boxed as new and I’ve not had to change ink cartridge yet since purchase. Fully wireless and connects to AirPrint without hitch. Only thing is it is mono print only. No colour option

I recently went with a Canon laser for a non-relevant reason. It was on sale for $210 at BestBuy. I'm loving having AirPrint natively. I have HandyPrint running on my tabloid laser, but that involves the iMac being on and it wants us to wake the printer to see it - defeating the purpose of being in the office out of the way. I would have brought a brother if I would have been able to use the white toner cartridge I want to try in the Canon. Always playing with printers here! LOL

I think laser in general is just the way to go. Much safer for the guts of the printer when there aren't containers of liquid to leak all over it, and you don't waste any money on dried out ink. I swear inkjets were only invented to rip people off.

i have a Brother2350 wifi b&w laser printer. I bought it 2 years ago so the product line may have changed. I think i posted here macrumors when i bought it. You will see a lot of posts that say buy a certain brand and or i owned this or that printer for 11 years and it is still running. Pay attention to the negative reviews on newEgg, amazon on the latest printers. I think they all are made in the same grass hut in vietNam.
good:
-i can print from my iPhone and ios devices
-It is fast accurate for my house hold needs. Actually very fast.
-prints both sides
-its wireless so you can put it anywhere in the house. move it around if you need.
-after maybe a year and a half it is still working
-never had a paper jam.
bad:
-setup was difficult since in box instructions were english as a 2nd language. The phone support front line employees were not well informed and I had to drill down to 2nd or third level. The setup was actually super easy once you had the information.
-when the printer times out and goes to sleep, it never wakes up
-for the wifi units you can NOT update the firmware
-the cost of the printer is less than the cost of disposables. the manufacturer put a super secret ID chip in the OEM ink cartridge. Youtube has a work around for the thrifty shopper. But its a hassle.
-i was printing turboTax 2020 and the printer decided to have a mid life crisis. The printer will count down a page counter and say the toner is empty. It is not empty or you will need to somehow reset that counter. Than you can continue for a half million copies more.

You had a printer that didn't have much use and the cartridges dried out- it was an Epson right.
That happens a lot with Epsons so I'll bet it was.
If you only want B&W then you are right laser is definitely the way to go.
Brother for sure is a good bet especially with a mac.

Agree--the last Epson I had got so gunked up with leaking inkjet cartridges that I just had to eventually toss it. It was not possible to get it running correctly anymore.

Once it's happened you do a search and find out it's a real weakness with Epsons.
They are good printers especially for printing photos, but they really need to be used often or this will happen.
