I'm currently saving for an iMac...17". My router on the downstairs PC of my house is a ''Buffalo AirStation G54''. Will the wireless thingy (sorry lol) inside the iMac detect the wireless network with this router? Or will it require a new router and or require me to plug in my USB adapter? Thanks.

Hold the phone there tipdrill. Thats a very blanket statement to make. The iMac *should* work with your router.

Definitely get your iMac. Chances are it will be fine.

However, im currently experiencing major issues with my brand new 24" iMac and its built-in wireless card. It could be the mac, it could be the router. Im still trying to get to the bottom of it.

Ive tried it with a Netgear DG834G router and a Fujitsu-Siemens AP-600RP-USB router. Im having the same issue with both routers. Connects fine, but speed and signal strength are very erratic. Both routers work problem-free with my Powerbook G4, an Acer laptop and the 24" iMac if I use my Belkin USB dongle.

It might be worth hanging around and seeing if anyone who is actually using the same router as you is able to verify its abilities. You could also try asking Apple or Buffalo tech support if theyve tested it.

I agree that it all comes down to signal strength.
I have used 3 routers since I purchased my iMac and have connected with ease to eash one. The signal strength varied greatly howerver.
If you do get a new one, research the signal strength as your main buying criteria.

Hi guys, I have a question regarding the Buffalo PCI card. I just bought one and it is a great card. Just put it in my G4 and it automatically recognized my DSL modem. The thing that concerns me is when I clicked on the Airport Icon on the top tool bar it showed me my neighbors routers. I had about 4 - 5 of them that appeared. What network security protocal do you guys use to secure your information from other people close to your network?
