I have been coming to this coffeeshop where they have quite a weak wireless signal. My MBA picks it up sometimes, but often not. Sometimes I'm able to work online, often not.

Other visitors with PC's and macs connect OK and are able to work online much better.

Other situation: At home many neighbors have wireless networks. If I scan with my Air I see about 5 networks. My old Asus 15inch XP laptop finds about 10.

How do you rate your wireless reception on your MBA?

I have an Airport Extreme at home, and the thing is very fast over wireless "N". We have a linksys router here at work running "G" and for some reason, it knocks the router out of commission once a day. Sometimes it just drops connection.

I work in downtown Manhatten (NYC), and I pick up about 10 wireless networks either in the building or across the street. I suspect it's just certain routers that are having issues.

Yes I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it's just that specific type of router they have in the coffeeshop.

Too bad because I like that place a lot. I may have to bring my 2,5kg Asus.

I've actually been pretty satisfied with mine..that being said, I still believe the MacBook has had the best Airport card of three current laptops..

What model Linksys is it? There are quite a few models that suffer from a bug where they don't properly release network connections, eventually filling the buffer and requiring a router restart.

I believe my old vanilla MB had better wireless, but the MBA's is more than passable to me. There are also some fixes coming to wireless in 10.5.3 so there's something to look forward to.
