Wireless Router/Modem for BT broadband

Hi!

I know there are already a number of threads regarding this topic. However, I’ll be ordering my first Mac on Wednesday (if the PBs get updated!!) and would like to know the best way to set up a wireless broadband connection at home.

There will be two machines in the house (powerbook and a Windows PC), I’m after getting a wireless router with built in modem so both machines can get online. The PC doesn’t have to be wireless as I’ll just have the router plugged in next to it.

Can anybody make any suggestions or give me any advice on the best solution?

I’m also interested in hooking up my printer (USB) and stereo to the router. So would the best option be the AirPort Express?

Not sure if this makes a difference but I’m on BT broadband at home and currently using the modem that BT sent.

seems ok to me. i have the WRT54G at home and it appears to be ok (it forgot all it's settings though at one point but other than that....)

I got a Netgear DG834G wireless router modem... mainly because its actually supported by AOL & BT. Easy to setup, and easy to run with a good range (I'm on my second - my brother "borrowed" my first) and I can definately recommend it. It a nice Apple White too!

I was tempted by the Airport, but when the Netgear is nearly half the price (when ordering through PC World online - £66, and can be ordered online and bought in store at the reduced price!) it was hard even for me to justify...

I've got the netgear DG834G, and, put simply, it rocks. I used to have to switch my old router off/on about every other day when it dropped the connection, but this baby has only needed that done once in the several months i've had it. I'm running it with BT broadband too. Installation and setup was a piece of cake. AND as mentioned, it's rather pretty.

Thanks for the quick replys, think im going to go for the Netgear DG834G. Its about £67 on Amazon inc delivery.

How would I go about sharing a printer (which is currently hooked up to the PC) with the PowerBook. Can this be done wirelessly via the router?

Edit: Just a quick update... I ordered the router last night from Amazon (UK), when I got to the checkout the price was only £53, rather than the £67 stated! Just thought I'd point this out in case anybody else is after one. Cheers.
