Wireless Router Recommendations Needed!!!

I'm looking into getting a wireless router for my iBooks (1.33 ghz 12in) and need suggestions. Anyone have experience with D-Link or Linksys? The reviews online mostly deal with performance on PCs and I can't buy an Airport Base (price) so if anyone has recommendations fire away! Thanks in advance

I have D-Link G604T wireless router. No serious problems with it, pretty easy to set up. Has four ethernet ports and a wireless network. Only slight problem is occasionally the network seems to go 'idle' and you have to restart the router.

I have only found this router on the D-Link Australia and New Zealand

Do you need wired connections?

If not, would the Airport Express (not the full function base station just the express), meet your needs and price point?

Personally, I have owned and used about five wireless routers. The Airport Express is the best I've ever used. Furthermore, you can connect a USB printer to it, and then print from any computer, anywhere in your home.

I was also going to recommend the airport express. Unfortunately, it runs about $30 more than most decent routers. Where I work, we see a lot of linksys and netgears come back as DOA. In the experience I have had with all of the above, things have worked out fine. But with that said, the airport express has the feature set and configuration software to blow the competition out of the water, hands down. You pay for quality though.

Get yourself a 10 dollar Belkin 802.11b. Zero problems here.

A while ago I picked up a Belkin Wireless G-router for 9.99 after a load of rebates.

I had this router for a while and it ran fine. Very nice router and I got it for $20. I recommend it.

My girlfriend uses a d-link (I forget the model number, sorry) and it runs fine as well. I recommend d-link too.

However, the BEST sub $500 router on the market if the Linksys WRT54G with 3rd party firmware (about $50 for the router and $20 for the firmware). Hands down. 3rd party firmware allows you to do things like increase the power of the router by 900%. If you are not a power user and don't like flashing firmware, stay away for 3rd party firmware. This router is still one of the best routers you can buy when using the standard linksys firmware. I personally wouldn't purchase any other router.

Thanks for the 10 dollar solutions guys but unfortunately I'm not in the states right now.

All I'm looking for is a reputable brand/model that has great reception and will work on Macs.

Try Belkin

I hooked up my father-in-laws wireless this weekend with Belkin Pre-N. It was easy and it works great on a Mac and PC. Excellent reception

The Belkin Pre-N system is nice, but seeing as it is incompatible with the Airport systems in macs you won't get any better than "G" (54mbps) performance. So save yourself the extra cash, I'd say.
I personally am now running a Linksys Wireless Router which works perfectly fine. I have experience with Netgear and Belkin as well. Both work great. As long as you stick to the mainstream networking brands like Linksys, Belkin, Netgear and D-Link you won't have any trouble.

Just out of interest, what country are you in?

I have a D-Link DI-624 and think it is great. Always fast and never goes down. Have had it for almost 2 years now.

I'm considering getting a kit with this as well so it'd be great if I can take it with me while traveling

i have been using the airport express, as have many friends and family. i can only but recommend it. it may actually be apples best product!

it does indeed have the interchangeable plug.

i think you will be blown away with all it does and how well it does it. wireless printing and music are tremendous plusses.

I use an airport express and they are great, also one of the netgear VPN firewall routers with wireless, bit expensive but the extra VPN functionalaity was useful for linking to locations. I did have a Dlink but got rid of it as it needed regular reseting.

airport express is my choice, if you don't mind spending a bit more money. Being able to hook up a usb printer and speakers is a huge plus, especially with your laptop.

Just one more question, can I connect more than one iBook onto the airport express and have them both browsing the net at the same time? Are there any rumors on an updated AE anytime soon?

Is the abillity to plug in printer and speaker the only thing that distinguishes the Airport Express from the 524? Has the speed/connectivity improved with AE?
