Can someone tell me why I cannot connect a wireless router (I suspect any router) to my old iMac (rev d) running OSX10.2.8??? I've always just run automatic DHCP settings with my DSL and cable connections.... I tried inputting the network card's MAC addy for the router and still no trouble. I didn't reboot anything but usually never have to. Anything common I am doing wrong? This is with a Netgear router but I had even less luck with a Linksys.

What channel is the wireless router?

FWIW, this is nothing to do with airport. I have a pre-airport ready iMac. I'm just trying to run a wired connection from my mac to the router. I have a PC notebook to use the wireless with. I'm just trying to get the wired connection running.

I'm not so familiar with Jaguar, but does it have a network diagnostics? In Tiger, you get to this by system prefs -> Network -> click on the interface in question (i.e. ethernet) -> Click assist me at the bottom. If you don't have the Assist Me button in Jag, then in this same place, click the TCP/IP tab and provide info on what each of the items (particularly IP address & router) say.

Also, does this router have by any chance a "wireless only" mode that you're in?

There should be almost no router from any company with which you can't even make a *wired* connection. Particularly not from the majors like Netgear, Linksys, D-Link, etc.
