wireless router

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum,

I have a dell desktop right now. I will be getting a mbp in early may, and I would like to set up a wireless network in my house. Is that possible?? I have cox cable, will that create any problems?

If it is possible does anyone know what the best router would be?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Netgear Per-N router that works great a well. I was on my network with a new iMac in less than 5 minutes. OS X's network setup worked great!

The range of the pre-n router is far superior to the 802.11b (my previous router). With my old router, it was hit and miss if I could even see the network if I was in the back of the house but with the Netgear router, I spent several afternoons in a hammock in my backyard with no reception problems....

The router should have a pretty good easy setup guide that walks you through the setup process. If I remember mine from the Netgear router, it might recommend that you plug your computer into the router to set it up intitially but I did it wirelessly. Also I would recommend setting up the WEP encryption from the beginning.

When I first started using 802.11b back in 2002, I could not pick up any other networks (no neighbors using wi-fi) but last year when I setup my new router, I could pick up 4 other wi-fi networks. A buddy mine just got wi-fi last year and he told me he can pick up 7 networks from his house, almost none of which are encrypted...

I would suggest sticking to one of the major brands (i.e. Netgear, Belkin, etc) and you should be fine. If you keep an eye out, you should be able to pick one up on "sale" (mail in rebates) at CompUSA, Circuit City of Best Buy and get into a good router for less than $50....
