I have the JBL alien speakers currently. Great speakers!

But now I'd like to go wireless. And probably battery powered. I have a two story house. Not huge. So we want to be minimalistic. But want great sound and the ability to easily relocate speakers to bedroom upstairs. Without dealing with wires. Would like speakers that will receive from both the Macbook and new iPhone 4. Would like great sound, with great bass - like the JBL Alien speakers. Surround sound an option???

Is AirPlay the answer? Will it work with Macbook (OS X 10.6)? Or is bluetooth the answer? Or is wifi the answer?

Does anyone have recommendation?

there will be airplay speakers out sometime soon, not sure when though, probably in the 3-12 month range though. the only one i've seen announced is battery powered (link)

airplay will work from iTunes (and iTunes only, music only no video, on your computers) and your iOS devices, these can do video on the phone, with synced audio out the remote speakers.
on the computer multiple simultaneous speakers are supported, from iOS, only one.

airfoil will currently transmit to airport express, and the old :apple:TV, not sure about the new version, and don't know about any new airplay speakers that come out.
It will let you transmit from any program on your computer, although there is about a 2 second delay, so video can be a bit problematic unless you use their player which will delay the video to match.

surround sound isn't supported, although it can send raw DTS if you have a DTS decoder on the other end. but without a decoder all you hear is static. and you have to make sure you are not modifying the signal at all (no EQ and volume at nominal)
