Wireless use internationally?

I'm traveling to Ireland this weekend and was wondering about using the iPhone. If you're using wireless to connect to the Internet does AT&T charge you for roaming? If available, I'd love to use public wireless to check e-mails and access Google Maps. Any helps/tips would be appreciated.

Take out the sim card. The phone will function fine without it minus YouTube, SMS, calls, etc..

There was one user who supposedly only used WiFi, but the phone still jumped on EDGE at times without knowing and a rather large bill was generated.

So pull you sim card to be safe and keep it with you. Try it now if you wish to make sure you have all the functionality you need.

I'd also suggest doing this, you won't like the bill if the phone accidentally goes on EDGE. And if you try calling someone I'm pretty sure its $1 a minute.

... and that was me. Yes, take your SIM card out and keep it somewhere safe. For (what I supposed to be) routine operations that take place over the current available internet source, i was charged $80 for 5.4mb of transfered data.

YouTube gets affected but Google Maps, Safari, etc. does not?

Maybe I did something wrong, bit when I took out the SIM card it said no network available and wouldn't pick up my home wifi. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I take that back. Wifi is working without the SIM. Thanks.

If you set mail never to automatically check your email and dont open Safari or Weather or anything it should be fine. But just ot be on the safe side you might wonna take out the SIM while using Safari or anything.
