Witch macbook pro retina 13" for video edition

Hi,
I know it might have been asked already but here is my question

I really want to buy a MacBookPro retina 13" but I was wondering about the configuration...

I want it to be super fast for normal life programs (itune, photo, safari, page...) just a click and everything open.... and I want it to be able to run GoPro studio, adobe premiere, photoshop and maybe finalcut X... I shoot with a gopro Hero black ed ( 1080/2,7k up to 60fps) and a Sony Alpha 700 DSLR

for the moment I own an HP pavilion dm4 with I5 2,4 Ghz and 4Go of RAM but it really lag when I play video shoot at 60 fps and I always have to reduce the size of the video to a quarter when I edit my footages.... and even with that, it lags !!

I was interrested to buy the retina 13", 256Go of flash SSD, 16Go RAM, i5 with 2,6 Ghz and 3,1 GHz with Turbo Boost

Anyone own a late 2014 13" retina ? what configuration do you have ? does it lag when you use edition programs ?

Wrong forum, but I'll offer you some feedback. Because of the SSD, all you programs will launch super fast ("just a click and..."). That's not an issue really.

With the dual-core CPU and the integrated GPU, your video editing experience will really suck on the 13" retina. I have no idea how some people manage. If you use iMovie, it will be slow and export times will be relatively long, but it's somewhat usable... mostly for amateurs and general home users. Can't comment on FCPx as I don't use it. AE will not be able to use a GPU for acceleration, so even scrubbing the video will be slow and stuttery even at 1/4 resolution, basically unusable. Your export times will be super high. IMO you really need GPU acceleration for AE. And yes, even playing some high bitrate 60p video may not be smooth.

Photo editing programs are a lot more usable, but if you're heavy into the editing, Photoshop and Lightroom can feel slow-ish if you're used to a quad-core.

I got a 13" retina some time back and returned it the next day and got a 15" for a great deal. The latest 15" ones are GPU neutered too, you'd need the higher-specced one around $2500 to get a discrete GPU.

to answer your comment unfortunatly I don't have 2500$ to spend on a computer, even 1900 for the retina is really expensive...

I'm not really serious on editing, just some color corection on my photo (maybe iPhoto will be enough...) and create some clip I shooted with my gopro. But for sure I will use GoPro studio and I'm learning to use adobe premiere.

I went to an apple store and the seller told me it will be fine if I had the 2,6Ghz with 16Go of RAM...

the SSD accelerate the speed to open an application but does not accelerate the application while running ? like render time, export videos...

Hey man, you are a perfect candidate for a refurbished computer. Consider something like this:

Are you really sure it´s gona change ? Of course a I7 is better cause quad core but 2,4Ghz and 8go of ram is less than the 13" I wanted to purchase...

Plus i'm french and I leave in canada, prices are not exactly the same and I wanted an AZERTY keyboard... :'-(

I grew up a little south of Ottawa. I'm guessing your used/refurb options are limited. New may be best option. The video card would help you more than the RAM though.

Get the lower Prozessor and put that money into RAM! (Possibly also in Storage).

Despite its bad reputation, the integrated graphics from Intel have come a long way in OpenCL performance. They might not be that great for games, but the OpenCL score is actually higher than on the 15" Nvidia Cards.

Final Cut Pro X runs surprisingly well on my 13" with Intel Iris.

I opted for the 2.4 Ghz back then, with 16 Gigs of RAM and more flash storage: and I've got to say that I am pleasantly surprised. Every day.

That´s what i wanted to do. Buy the 2,6Ghz and upgrade to 16Go of RAM. I went to the apple store, ran some 2,7k/1080 shot at 60fps and I have to say that i was really impressed.

Just to see if it is, at home, as smooth as it was in the store

I tried FCPX and it is really fast even at 8 Go...
