With today's Pro announcement, many iMacs will be sold

I'm sure there are some who are glad the Mac Pro's are here. But I'll bet there are many like myself who wanted something more before shelling out mucho $. I'm looking a lot more seriously at the iMac i7 refurb. If Apple had included hdmi in and out, or usb 3.0, or esata, or more hard drive or optical drive options and space, or blu-ray, then I would have considered a Mac Pro. But my 2.66 quad ver 1.1 is doing fine and will just have to keep doing so for a while. MHO

If USB 3.0 is the only think keeping you from pulling the trigger on $5K system, then I don't know what to say.

Mac Pro has always been about Xeons and expansion. If neither are at the top of your needs, then get a Mini or iMac. Hell get a half dozen.

It's not just USB 3.0. It's also the absence of eSATA and firewire 1600+. None of the new Apple hardware has these state of the art port connection technologies. What we have is USB 2 and firewire 800 which are quite dated. It is a real miss not to have included at least one of these in the Mac Pro. They give you the option to include SSD's and then say the fastest inbedded connection speed for external drives is firewire 800? I will probably buy one later this year to replace my first generation unit, but I feel they took their eye off the ball here.

Might just be me, but it looks like Apple is slowly starting to lose its Mac Pro consumer base. Today's upgrades were nice, but lacked some key features like USB 3.0, and at the same time is quite an investment.

Oh I agree. I was a potential Mac Pro customer myself, previous G5 Power Mac owner, but now after today, I'm pretty much sold on the new iMac. Better value overall and the SSD + HDD combo was the primary thing I was waiting for.

That and the Mac Pro configurations are ridiculously expensive, while the base Mac Pro is simply last year's model with bumped up specs at the same price point.

I'll be ordering a new iMac, my first. I've always been a Mac tower guy, having gone through the 8600, G3 Tower, G4 Quicksilver, and the G5 Dualie (which I sold last year in prep for what I thought would be my first Mac Pro tower).

I've been waiting for the new Mac Pro for a year now, waiting to give Apple my money. However, the bang for the buck is in the iMac, not the Mac Pro...and this is coming from someone who would have given the Mac Pro the benefit of the doubt if he could.

It looks like I'll be running Final Cut Studio on an iMac.
