I checked the weight between the US model, and the UK model and the site says they weigh exactly the same, and I don't think their batteries are any different. What did they do with the space they freed then?

Probably a plastic spacer - it's a lot cheaper than putting in a SIM tray.

This is likely a cost-saving measure by Apple as prices didn't increase this year. You choose either mmWave antenna (U.S.) or SIM tray (rest of world).

Yea. Seems like it. I was hoping they would put something else. Maybe a little more juice to the battery.

I'm sure the internals of the phone were designed with the removal of the SIM slot in mind, meaning Apple would have more space to move things around as needed, it's not like they would have designed the board with a void and just left it there. Updated components, the addition of satellite connectivity, the phone is also .2mm thicker than last year I believe, so who knows how it looks now. Looking forward to iFixIt's teardown.

Why not? The vast majority of iPhone 14 sold will have a SIM tray, so Apple has likely designed it for such. Look at the non-mmWave models and what occupies that antenna space (nothing).

One of the benefits of Apple moving to a larger form factor is they have more internal volume to play with.

Confirmed, Apple literally just put a plastic spacer over the area. You can even see the solder pads for the SIM slot. It's just missing the slot.

The reviewer/disassembler believed that black module that looks like a spacer could be the satellite module, did not mention a spacer. Whether or not it is a spacer or actual logic, he points this out at 5:34 in his video

iPhone 14 Pro disassembly

It doesn’t make any sense because there is no such thing as a “satellite module.” Globalstar uses the Qualcomm chip, specifically band n53. Look carefully and you’ll see circular copper pads underneath the spacer that are ready for mating to a component. That spacer clearly doesn’t mate to any of those copper pads.

That is the dumbest thing I’ve seen from Apple so far. I am actually shocked.
It's not dumb at all. There will be SIM-card-capable versions of the iPhone, so it therefore makes no sense to design two entirely distinct internal layouts. Once e-SIMs replace physical SIMs across an entire iPhone model, Apple can recapture that space for something else.

It is a shame we didn't get something for that space. Just losing something is a lose, exchanging something at least has some advantage.

Here's what the non-neutered version of the iPhone 14 Pro Max logic board looks like.

What are you talking about? We lost the physical Sim slot for digital one. We did gained something; a more reliable digital sim Option. 🤦🏾‍♂️ the disc tray ps5 and the digital ps5 have the same eternals as well. They didn’t shove a bigger fan or anything like that.

The 13 supports either two eSIMs or a physical SIM and a single eSIM. The 14 now just supports two eSIMs. The 14 didn't gain anything except maybe better waterproofing.
