I am looking for someone who owns or has owned a whiny MBP 15" and has aquired a new 17" to confirm whether or not the 17" has the same whine. I see people saying it has a slight hiss or whine but I wonder if it's just the fan. I can deal with fan noise. I cannot deal with the same hiss that made me get rid of my MBP 15. Someone please help! :)

Nope. Dead silent. I tried it plugged in and also while running on batteries. Just to be sure, I ran photobooth with my ear next to the machine and didn't hear a difference.

I did have a whiny MBP15 and know what it sounds like. So, now whine.

Thank you! How's the heat on it comparatively? Thanks again!

Much much cooler! The top doesn't get nearly as hot as MBP15 and is almost cool to the touch. The bottom gets warm, but not scorching like the 15" version. Heat is subjective but relatively speaking, my MBP 17 is about 33% - 50% cooler than the MBP 15 I replaced

Yeah, but you failed to ask the most important question...

eVolcre's 17" was DOA

I would guess that doesn't really matter but just so you know :)
yeah but I thought it was just a ribbon cable or something, in other words just a strange fluke...?

LOL. True True.

But, I really think that is a fluke and not indicative of the quality of the MBP 17. Look at the outcry we had on the forums with the MBP15 issues and the relative lack of complaints on this release.

Go forth and multiply (the number of MBP17s I mean)

Yeah, I'm sure it was just a fluke thing, but I just found it funny that yours was the only response to the OP's question and yet yours was DOA. Just made me laugh a bit.
My strange sense of humour :)
