hey guys, i have a fp imac with the basic quicktime on it. most online vids seem to be .wmv format and cannot be read by my quicktime program.
is there anything i can do, or other program i should look into for watching these?

just for the record they are paintball videos and not porn!:D

Just download the Macintosh version of Windows Media Player and you're all set.

Use VLC

Just use the VLC player:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

it already contains most important codecs, like DivX4, DivX5, Xvid, WMV and many others. It plays all my movies without problems.

By the way, it's available also for Windows machines.

yeah use a third party app. WMV is really crappy, and WMP is even crappier.

btw i'll just bet it's not porn ;)

pnw

thanks everybody...
but the game clips on smacktalkpaintball.com are in .wmv format....
now if porn happens to be in the same format, well?!?!

I wasn't able to get Windows Media Player for OS X to play anything other than .wmv files. No .avi, .mpg, .mov.

Porn is usually .avi's - I guess, I mean .. uhh... that's what .. uh you know .. people usually say .. umm

Anyone know?

Is there a new codec out for WMP? Lately I've been downloaded a couple of clips that I get audio but no video (just black). The clips were newly encoded, according to the post-er, but no go for me.

By the way, the clips are on-ride videos, not porn. I don't even know how to spell "porn". Or "porno", for that matter. Or even "pornography". Really, I don't even know what it is. Or where to find it. So don't even ask.

The newest codec is WMV9 and I'm not sure if its completely backwards compatible with older versions of WMP (like the Mac one).

As for players, screw WMV for Mac, use MPlayer or VLC.

Too many proprietary apps out there for video. Everyone agreed to support MPEG-4 standards but... I use either VLC or Mplayer which seem to work pretty well but I don't think the newest WMVs will play on them.
