Is this an only-in-Hollywood story?

A 39-year-old woman named Julie, a regular in the Yahoo! Personals who is looking for "great guys", will be "living" on a billboard on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood all day each day from January 7th to January 9th, and picking 3 guys for 3 dates on the billboard each day. As far as I can tell, the billboard will have a giant photo of her on it and there will be a Julie-cam too.

She even has sponsors!
Breakfast from Citron Catering, Yoga with Yoga Works, Hair and makeup by Beverly Hills beauty guru Jose Eber, diamond necklace from Pierre Garms, etc.

Craziness - but it will only get worse....

You have to wonder if they're paying her anything as well..... :D

It is quit an interesting story Doctor Q. I wonder when the live TV is available? Will give her credit for being so pro-active in searching for dates. New trends do seem to come from California.

Yeah but this is both good and bad. Remember valley girl talk? Now we got teenage girls in Alaska talking like that. In NYC I heard it. Yuck.
 
Looks more like a promo for Yahoo personals more than any idea of the woman's. Going by the picture at the link, I can't believe she'd really have all that much trouble getting dates....especially from the kind of guys who'd date a girl because he saw her on a billboard! You can bet that Yahoo's logo will be right up there next to her picture.....

of course its all about marketing - but i've met plenty of women who look good, but have some serious issues.

you have to wonder why she's 39 and not married yet if that's what she's after. And yes, I know there are plenty of good reasons, its more of a rhetorical question....;)

At personals.promotions.yahoo.com/julie, I was seeing a Real Player logo on the right third of the screen, below the words "Live Julie TV", but I don't have Real Player installed on the computer I'm using at the moment. I tried it again on another computer and got " HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed" under "Live Julie TV". It's a bit of a drive for you, D, but you can always come to Hollywood and see for yourself.

I got the player, but it still doesn't work.

No big deal though - just morbid curiosity on my part.

I tried using my Real Player program, then pasted personals.promotions.yahoo.com/julie. Message can't connect, then tried an automatic configuration without success.

Maybe eyelikeart and some of you guys in Lousiana could take a road trip to the Billboard in LA. Who knows maybe eyelikeart get hired to do a photo shoot with the stipulation that he can post film here also.
 
this lady freaks me out man...

she looks like she would turn out to be a cold bitch and murder you in your sleep, but that's pretty superficial of me. ;)

I can hear her talking now, but no pic. She is talking about how Yahoo contacted her about being on the billboard.

Currently an helicopter is circling the billboard....

Apparently they had to talk her into it... and they though she was good looking....

I feel better now that an experienced Mac user is having trouble. Is she having a lot of men showing up in person at the Billboard asking for a date?

Maybe you could go tomorrow after work to scope out the situation for us here on the forum.

What was she looking for in a man that she couldn't find in America's second-largest city? "I'm looking for a man's man in the middle of Hollywood," Koehnen said with a slight roll of the eyes. Most men in Los Angeles, she said, were too laid back and "ambivalent" to sweep her off her feet.

"I like it when a man says he wants to go out with me," Koehnen, a slender blond with a Meg Ryan flip and bubbly personality, said. "I grew up in Minnesota, so I'm looking for something a little more familiar."

I figured out that Julie went to Paynesville Area High School in Paynesville, Minnesota and that this is a photo from her high school reunion. I think I circled the right person. I found the photo here. Ain't the web fun?

So is she let down at all? I would hate to see the poor sap who ends up going up there on her last day only to find that she smells of BO... hehe.

Have you seen any good pictures of her on the Billboard Doctor Q? I just gave Real Player a try again and it wouldn't work!

Nope, but I did get the audio to work by switching to a PC (Windows 2000 Pro, Internet Explorer 6.0, Windows Media Player). What did I hear? A man and woman sounding like they are on a first date, with the usual symptom: they laughed at everything the other said, funny or not. And some honking horns.

I happy that you were successful in getting the live broadcast. What you heard sound like the usual dating ritual. I can only imagine what it would be like to date in such a public place. The only suitor that I recognized is the Famed stylist Jose Eber.
 
I don't recognize any of them. Just how do you earn the adjectives "Star", "Famed", "Renowned", and "Well-known", which I see used above? Some of those poor people in the publicity list didn't get an adjective. It reminds me of the rhetorical question: Why are there no "porn actors", only "porn stars"?

Maybe we all get to pick the adjective we like best and assign it to ourselves. What do you think, star MacRumors member wdlove? For myself, I'll pick "renouned" (with a "u") since I know lots of nouns and it sounds nicely pompous.
