I have an online business and part of that business is shooting ski films. These would be short films up to about 30 minutes, but usually under 10 minutes. How will the 2014 minis run Final Cut Pro? Right now I have a 2011 iMac with an 3.1mhz quad core i5, but my kids took it over long ago. I still edit movies on it when I can pry them away from it. Lol

I run my biz with a pc and can't stand it so I want to move to Mac for my biz.

I am just concerned that doing film edits will be agonizing with the minis.

Anyone here edit with a 2014 mini? I know it's still early but I thought I would throw that out there. Thanks.

Eta: I suppose I could get the kids the mini, but the usb 3.0 would be handy.

I've edited 2 hr SD documentaries on a 2009 Core 2 Duo Mini with 5400 RPM HDD and 4 Gb RAM using FCP 9 (?) not FCPX. Editing was fine but rendering the edits/transitions and using Compressor for format conversion took time. Just depends on how much horsepower you want to throw at the job. A New 8-core Mac Pro with dual GPUs will get the job done a lot faster.

Those new Mac Minis are really a downgrade if you ask me and you can not upgrade the ram yourself . The 2014 mac minis do have better graphics power but not much else . You should get a 2012 Mac mini maybe a quad core one, you can still buy them online from other stores New but not from Apple as far as I know . Also you say you do not like the PC , I still prefer Mac but Windows has really come a long way and they are becoming less and less different as years go by . If you have not tried Windows 10 you should give it a try it looks and works really good .

Wonder if a mini is a good choice for me

Thanks guys. I suppose it isn't a big deal to let it render for awhile, I have been waiting for a new mini for a couple of years and am so disappointed in what was put out. Think I will go for an older 2011ish Mac Pro or maybe just go the pc (puke) route. I just feel the Mac offerings are so pathetic. It almost feels like they are pushing away their niche clientele. Sad really.

It's unfortunate apple decided to screw it's customers who do real work with this throwaway mini crap. A 2012 quad-core would be good for you. You can get a refurb direct from apple for $589. Add ram and ssd.

Otherwise, staying with MS makes sense. Windows 10 is shaping up to be much better. Might jump ship myself.

Another vote for the 2012 quad core i7. It'll do what you need it too, pretty powerful little machine. Just add ram and an ssd like they said. It's the bang for the buck macpro afaiac.
