Got me thinking after 2 Geekbench results leaked with the M2 Max, they are showing 2 different clock speeds which you would hope would mean a difference between a laptop and desktop version.

Wonder why Apple didn't do this with the M1 versions. The Mac Studio has a much higher thermal capacity so surely could have coped easily with a 10%-20% increase in clock speed.

I also have been wondering this since the Studio launched.

They have terrific cooling, but similar single core performance as a fanless MBA.

My guess is that Apple wanted to save the overclocking for the next generation, especially if the chips used are just modified M1 chips like the M2 2022 MBA.

Ever watched a keynote? The words used every time are “performance per watt”. Apple is not trying to make the fastest cpu. They are trying to make the most efficient cpu.

Yeah, and they use snails and fire to show it!
