My macbook being my first notebook computer and me being a fairly regular gamer, the heat issue was something i noticed right away. When playing 3d games the fan would (as expected) kick into high hear right off the bat, i had been monitoring fan speeds and temperature while gaming, just for kicks. The fan would sit at 6000 - 6400rpm at around 80C. give or take.
well i went a purchased this 'cooling pad' for 10$ and was blown away with the performance. It reduced my fan speeds to 4000-5000 and the temperature sits at 70C now.
WOW.
best 10$ i've spent in awhile.

looks like its deffo worth the 10$! was it new (surely cant have been?) and does it have its own psu?

it was new. bought it at bestbuy. and by psu you mean? power supply?
it connects via usb and it has a funny little port on the back im pretty sure you could put a power adapter to but i did not get on.
it also has 4 usb ports on the back. so you don't loose any slots
