well at this point its pretty obvious....Snow Leopard is being developed optimizied for "multi-cores"...strangly we hear about this after intel officialy announces thier Nehamel proccesor. The Nehamels come out at the end of this year which means they'll definatley be avialible for the next iMac refresh...but here's where you can really spot it, Snow leopard comes out this time next year.....which will be exactly around the time of apples usual post-wwdc product line update what does that mean!
Apple will be launching the new Nehamel iMacs next year this time, preloaded with optimized snowleopard...it just fits the schedule of everything perfectly...soo stop asking!

Also here's what i see some of the new feature of the 2009 iMac's will have

-at least an option of intels crazy fast Nehalem quad cores(with hyperthreading...which really acts like 8 cores)
-USB 3 technology
-hopefully a Blu-ray drive option(but i doubt it)
-abililty for more RAM (which will more than likely be DDR3)
-320/500Gb standard on the lower end with 750Gb on the up side
-probably better screens that will resolve the current screen issues
-also all new graphics cards

but hey this is just my opinion.

now the only question is that if i can afford an iMac by mid-cycle, should i just wait for the '09 refresh?

Defiantly will happen
-USB 3 technology
Most likely will be in the iMac sooner or later

Mac Pros will have them first before the iMac.

You need more than 4GB? If so, get a Mac Pro then.

-320/500Gb standard on the lower end with 750Gb on the up side
Maybe

-probably better screens that will resolve the current screen issues
If enough people complain...

-also all new graphics cards
Flip of a coin on this. Some updated Macs on previous updates didn't get updated graphics cards.

Bad regular, no bone. Be nice to the newbies...they always come with "confirmed" information straight from Apple! If you drive them off how else will we know when the next big thing happens?

HAHAHA!!!

I'm laughing on the inside.
And the outside.

Definitely new graphics cards. The new generations are getting more and more power efficient, so of course Apple will use a new one! We are talking about a year away, anyway.

Definitely more RAM. If Nehalem is supposed to be tri-channel, seems there is a good chance the iMacs will come with 3 GB on the low end, and 6 on the high, probably with an option to upgrade to 12GB. Of course, while costing you 30% of your bodymass in flesh and limbs.

Of course, the iMacs, certainly the top ones, will come with quad cores. I would expect the MBPs will also have quad cores earlyish 2009. Only lower end stuff like entry iMac and MB *might* stay dual core until late next year. Of course, MBA will be dual core for a while yet. IMO.

Don't particularly care about the other crap, and don't have a clue anyway.
